A 53-year-old woman was raped and murdered late on Sunday night in JP Nagar. The assailants had partially burnt her body which was found dumped on a government school premises in Yelachenahalli.

The victim, Jayamma, was a resident of Yelachenahalli on Kanakapura Road.
According to the police, a few youths, who regularly play badminton at Jaraganahalli Government Model Primary School Ground, discovered the burnt body on Monday morning. The youth alerted the police who sent the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.

The victim had sustained severe head injuries.
Jayamma, a widow, was staying with her son and three daughters at Yelachenahalli, doing odd jobs. She was an alcoholic, the police said.

Jayamma, in inebriated state, had informed her children on Sunday night that she was going out for some work and would return soon. The assailants took her to the school ground and raped her, before brutally attacking her and setting her afire, the police said.

The victim’s children told the police that their mother would often go out late in the night and return the next morning. They assumed she would return the next day and did not bother to search for her, the police said. A few suspects have been detained for questioning.

Girl retracts  rape charge

A 16-year-old girl has claimed that three men abducted her in a car before gang-raping her. One of them was a physical education instructor at a school where the girl studied earlier. But the police doubt her story, saying she changed her statement frequently.

The girl, a class 9 student from Anand Nagar in Hebbal, told the police that a man named Muniraju and his two friends abducted her in a car and gang-raped her.

But she changed her statement later. “We have registered a case of abduction and subjected her to medical examination. We will be able to ascertain the veracity of the complaint only after the medical report comes,” a senior officer said.
The incident is said to have occurred some time after the girl went missing on August 28.

Her parents had made a complain to the police who managed to trace her on Monday. Police said that the girl and Muniraju had been very close for the last three years.

The girl first alleged gang rape but later said she was only abducted.

Police had another shocker when the girl claimed that the men were her relatives and she had voluntary gone with them.

Still, the police have arrested Muniraju, a postgraduate in Physical Education. He had worked with a school where the girl studied earlier. He is said to have become close to the girl there.

He later quit the job to study further.
