Enraged by the stinking toilets, bed bugs and mosquitos inside an air conditioned coach, passengers travelling by the Mysore-Ajmer special train forced the South Western Railway authorities to change the compartment on Thursday evening.

The train that left Bangalore City railway station here at 9.50 pm was halted before it could reach Malleswaram as a few passengers pulled the chain and stopped it.

On being alerted, the authorities brought back the train to the City railway station. The coach was replaced with a new one and the train resumed the journey around midnight.

Earlier, the passengers inside 2 A coach had a heated exchange with the ticket collector when they noticed bed bugs, mosquitos and dirty toilets.

Not satisfied with the reply, they pulled the chain, said Vedavyas Kaulgi, a traveller to Hubli. The authorities realised the problem and directed the locopilots to bring back the train. It took nearly two hours for the railway authorities to replace the coach and resume the service.
