Punjab ride on Sunny's brace to enter quarters

With this win Punjab moved into the quarterfinal league stage of the competition which begins on Thursday.

Sunny opened the scoring for Punjab at the half hour mark as the winners went for break with a  narrow 1-0 lead. A minute into the second half, Sunny netted his brace to help his team sit pretty on a two goal cushion.

The match, then, saw a dull period in which both teams failed find the back of the net. Gagan Deep Singh put Punjab on verge of quarterfinal spot with a goal in the 88th minute and Amruth Pal Singh rounded off the tally right at the stroke of final whistle.

In another match of the day, Andra Pradesh, riding on a hat-trick from Banoth Ram Babu scored an easy 3-0 win over Rajasthan.

Ram Babu netted in the 23rd, 38th and 72nd minutes of play. Karnataka will meet Harayana in their last league encounter at the Sir MV Stadium on Monday.
