IMD predicts heavy rain across State

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in coastal and south Karnataka.

The northeast monsoon set in over south India on Saturday. With this, Dakshina Kannada, Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajnagar and Kodagu districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall. The IMD has also predicted more showers in Bangalore over the next three days. Northeast monsoon is generally expected to set in from October 20. However, this year, it has arrived two days early, according to IMD Bangalore Director-in-Charge B Puttanna.

Bangalore has received more than expected rainfall for October. While the expected rainfall for October was 170.66 mm (calculated by taking into account the average over the last 50 years), the City has already received 215 mm rainfall as at 8 am, October 18, 2014. according to Meteorological department.
