With more than forty food stalls, the Bengaluru Food Festival 2014 was a huge success. The festival saw interesting live cooking workshops, celebrity chefs, quirky bands and glamorous DJs at the three-day event which was held recently at Jayamahal Palace.

The crowd, savouring the delicious goodies, couldn’t have asked for more, as they enjoyed themselves with the vast variety, which ranged from ‘parathas’ to full meals and rolls, chewy cotton candy and lip-smacking desserts.

A few students had also set up their baking start-ups and their bubbling energy added cheer to the festival. Shoaib, one of visitors said, “The food festival is really enjoyable. This is my first time at such an event and I’m waiting to watch the band performances.” Murali, a professional added that the festival was different as it encouraged food, music and entertainment under one platform which made for an exciting weekend.  The festival kicked off with celebrity chef, Shailendra Kekade, the host of ‘Food Food’ cooking live for the audience and other chefs  like Philip Varghese and Soma Shekar. Shailendra, who was looking to provide the audience with something healthy, easy-to-cook and interesting food items, said that today’s youngsters aren’t eating healthy dishes mainly because options aren’t available to them by the parent generation.

“Globalisation of cuisines has allowed food to exist everywhere which is a good thing. Food should have the ability to overpower the five senses.”

The second day added to the glamour as celebrity chef Rakesh Sethi gave out some interesting tips of making a quesadilla. A barbeque workshop by Weber company was the main highlight of the event, where people listened to basic tips and techniques such as using charcoal and grilling the food.

The highlight of the show was the interaction with Rocky Singh and Mayur Sharma, popular hosts of the show, ‘Highway on My Plate’, who interacted with the audience on Bangalore’s food culture.

‘Beat Gurus’ also whipped up exciting African music which energized the crowd and DJ Candice, DJ Vivaan and DJ Angel connected with the younger audience from their set.The Bengaluru Food Festival also saw Sunday brunch with celebrity chef Saransh Golia, a cheese and chocolate making workshop and a performance by ‘Tidal Wave’, a Goa Hindi rock band on the third day.

The festival stood testament to the fact that good food knew no boundaries.
