Last Updated 20 October 2014, 21:33 IST

A campaign will be planned to take up soil testing in the agricultural lands of all farmers, said Minister for Agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda .

Speaking after accepting memorandum from MLA Y S V Datta on Monday, he said that the officials will test the soil on the door step of the farmers. The government has set a time frame of three years to complete the process.

Reacting to the demand that Ragi Research Centre should be set up in Kadur, he said that it is easy to set up a centre. However, it is difficult to maintain it.

The government has set up centres to rent out farm implements and machines to farmers. The centre has been set up in association with SKDRDP.

He said that land has been identified for the setting up of Raitha Samparka Kendra at Yagati in Kadur taluk.

Complaints

Later speaking after receiving grievances in Chikmagalur, he said that he has received complaints against agriculture officers in the district and he will ‘repair’ them at an  appropriate time.

On listening to grievances, he promised of taking action against the erring officials. “Government programmes can be a success only when the party workers build a bridge between people and the government.

The success of a government depends on the work of ministers and the workers. The Congress government has been facing several challenges. People have supported the Congress as they were tired of the previous government. Therefore, responsibility lies large on the shoulders of Congress leaders to make the Congress regime a success,” he said.

The Minister touched upon various aspects including how the system has been made corrupt in last seven years. It is easy to ruin a system, but not so easy to build it. It is a challenge to fulfill the aspirations of the party workers.

“Agriculture and horticulture university has been started at Shimoga, to support researches related to agriculture crops grown in Malnad and coastal belt. It has been directed to take up research on improving the paddy yield,” the minister said.
