A jilted lover rang up the girl he allegedly stalked and made her hear the sound of gunshots while pumping bullets into her uncle. The victim had objected to the accused harassing his niece, police said.

The accused then called up police to inform that he had shot dead the man. However, he soon switched off his mobile phone and has been absconding since then.
The shooting incident took place in east Delhi’s Jafrabad during the wee hours of Monday.

Victim Owais Khan, 32, had been summoned out of his Bhajanpura house by the murderer around 2.30 am.

“Even as the two had a heated discussion outside Khan’s house over the issue of the girl’s harassment, Amaan fired in the air with a country-made pistol to scare Khan’s family away. He then took Khan away at gunpoint to Jafrabad,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The girl and her family kept calling the accused on his mobile phone, but he did not respond.

Around 4 am, Amaan rang up the 20-year-old girl and told her that he was about to shoot her maternal uncle.

Even as the girl kept pleading with Amaan, he shot Khan twice, once in the head and then in the chest.

He then told her to collect the body from a particular traffic signal in the area before calling up police and informing about the incident.

But before a team could reach the spot, he had fled. Khan was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police claimed that despite some time gap between Khan’s abduction and murder, his family had not informed police.

“We could not attempt any rescue as we were informed by the accused himself. The victim’s family had not made a call to police till then,” the officer claimed.

The girl stays with her mother and maternal uncles after her parents separated a few years ago.

Amaan, a married man having a six-month-old daughter had allegedly been persistently behind the girl, drawing Khan’s displeasure and reprimand on several occasions.

Amaan, a native of Bareilly, would also allegedly eve-tease the girl often and her family had been involved in quarrels with him over the issue.

A case of murder has been registered against Amaan and efforts are on to nab him, said police.
