Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav may have promised uninterrupted power supply to the people of the state during Diwali,  the festival of light, but on Tuesday he realised that it was extremely difficult tofulfil it.

The Chief Minister had a taste of the ongoing power crisis in the state when there was an unscheduled power cut during his press conference at the secretariat annexe where he and several other senior bureaucrats have their offices.

As the back up system also had some technical problems, the Chief Minister had to spend around 10 minutes without power.“It is Diwali effect,” Akhilesh quipped in an apparent bid to downplay the power cut.

UP has been experiencing unprecedented power crisis and large parts of the state, especially rural areas, have been reeling under prolonged power cuts.

There is a huge gap between the demand and availability of power in the state.
While the UP government has blamed the Centre for not supplying enough coal for its power plants, the Centre and the ruling BJP have attributed the crisis to mismanagement by the state government.
