Taking his Make in India campaign a step forward, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged India Inc to encourage manufacturing of medical devices in India.

“The need of the hour is for India to manufacture medical equipments as part of the ‘Make in India’ programme so that it became available to the poorest of people even in remote corners of India,” Modi said while inaugurating the H N Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.

Modi also called for renewed thrust on preventive healthcare and inclusion of more technology for better facilities to the people of the country.

“Preventive healthcare is important. Treatment is expensive, while prevention is economical,” the prime minister said. Clean drinking water for all would be the biggest source of preventive healthcare, he pointed out. Tele-medicine enables expert opinion even for people living far away. We need to integrate this and give good facilities to people, he added.

Expressing concern over the deaths of children in India, Modi sought the help of all governments to provide affordable health services across the country.
