Aimed to capture the gist of Indo-German academic activity expressed through photography and scientific activities, the German House of Research and Innovation is organising photo exhibition titled ‘DWIH Horizon: Art Meets Science’.

The exhibition is showcasing the cultural highlights combined with first hand information on research and innovation in Germany.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Michael Steiner, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is also showcasing photos depicting everyday life in India, captured by Indian photographers during the photography master class conducted during the ‘Excellence on Tour’ road shows, in Ahmedabad and Kolkata in 2013 and 2014. These photos have now been assembled into an exhibition by Wolfgang Zurborn, a famous German artistic photographer.

The ‘Theatre of Real Life’ theme of the photo exhibition ‘DWIH Horizon: Art meets Science’, aims to showcase international cooperation between India and Germany through the photographs displayed. Through such exhibitions, the photographers want to get themselves into the experimental mode to look for a new view on everyday life through their lenses.

Photography gives the chance to react immediately on any given situations – to find intense moments, the surprising constellations of people, objects, signs and architectural spaces on the streets. The choice of this theme is based on individual interests, a statement issued by DWIH said. During the exhibition, Zurborn will also take a workshop on the ‘Art of Making Photo Books’.

According to him, “the photo book is the most original form of photo expression and a collection of great photographs is not automatically a brilliant photo book. You need an intelligent concept and editing of the photographs to create a personal statement about your perception of the world around you. The selection of photographs, its series, the design, the layout of the pages, the touch and feel of the cover and the paper and many other details have to be kept in mind while making a photo book.”

The exhibition ‘DWIH Horizon: Art Meets Science’ is on till November 1 at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).
