Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil on Thursday said the government had received recommendations from the Nanjaiah Math Committee to conduct direct elections to the post of president for the gram panchayats.

However, the minister said the recommendations would be considered only after the K R Ramesh Kumar-led committee on the Panchayat Raj reforms submitted its report.

Speaking to the media, Patil said the department would place before the Cabinet the Nanjaiah Math Committee report for its approval. “Once it gives its approval to the recommendations, barring the direct election reforms, we will issue a government order to implement the same,” he said.

Patil said the department had enrolled 2,485 daily wage workers under the Karnataka Daily Wage Employees Welfare Act of 2012. The  employees at various levels in government services will be given the same wages as that of a permanent employee. These employees have been considered based on their 10 years of service since 2006.
