Now dedicated lanes for autorickshaws

Last Updated 22 November 2014, 04:47 IST

Dedicated lanes for autorickshaws on the City roads were formally introduced on Friday. City Police Commissioner M N Reddi, using the powers granted to him under Section 18 of Rules of the Road Regulation 1989 and Section 116 of the Indian Motor Vehicles’ Act, passed an order for the dedicated lanes.

The autorickshaw drivers should compulsorily move on the lanes specified on the left and the right sides of the roads.

The drivers could take a right or a left turn, 50 metres before the junction, to change the lane. Some roads have two or three lanes (roads with painted strips). If such roads have no dedicated lanes, then the drivers should compulsorily move on to the left. Those who want to take a right turn, can do so 50 metres before the junction, said the police.
