BJP, RSS creating 'Hindu' nation, says Yechury

Last Updated 28 November 2014, 20:30 IST

CPM Politburo member Sitaram Yechury on Friday indirectly slammed Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani for visiting an astrologer as it is against the spirit of the Constitution, which recommends the promotion of a scientific temper.

Yechury, however, did not mention her name, but went all out to criticise the BJP, claiming that it is a mask of the RSS and wants to create a ‘Hindu nation’.

In an editorial for the upcoming issue of party mouthpiece “People’s Democracy”, Yechury has alleged that the educational system is being revamped to promote Hindu
values and assist Hindu re-emergence.

“The RSS and BJP have embarked on a concerted effort to completely change the country’s education system and make it patently conducive for the propagation and advance of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’,” says the editorial.

“The recourse to promote obscurantism and religious fanaticism is aimed at buttressing communal polarisation through the spread of hate against the religious minorities, particularly Muslims,” the editorial reads. “Atal Behari Vajpayee was the mask the RSS needed then to attract political allies to form the central government. Behind the mask, the RSS relentlessly pursued its agenda,” he wrote.
