Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and Syncotts International put together the first-of-its-kind court at a cost of Rs six lakh in a span of four months.

The court was inaugurated by Karnataka Olympic Association president K Govindaraj, Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda and Minister for Youth Services and Sports in a function delayed by half-an-hour.

Dream come true

“This is a dream come true,” said Sachin Belavadi, a former national player who is now the chief coach at the Ambedkar Basketball Coach.

“I expected the process to be tedious but the BBMP was really helpful. This will make a big difference to basketball in the State.” ABC, a free-to-all club, has in the past couple of years produced some of the best talent in the State.

A layer of bitumin is poured on the existing cement surface to make for a base, followed by a thick layer of binder designed to block the pores.

Two layers of rubber-based synthetic cushions are smeared on top and then two layers of thick paint are added for extra cushioning, making it a comfortable experience for the players.

Later in the evening, in the first competitive match on the new surface, Army Service Corps scored a 30-20 win over ABC.
