10-day Karavali Utsav from December 23

The exhibition will be held for 45 days and would comprise various contests

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has said that the 10-day long Karavali Utsav will be held from December 23 to January 1. However, the exhibition will be held for 45 days, at the Karavali Utsav grounds.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, he said that nine sub committees have been formed for the success of the fest. The Karavali Utsav will be observed grandiosely at Karavali Utsav ground, Kadri Park, Panambur beach, Nehru Maidan and Canara Girls High School, Dongarkery.

A procession will be held prior to the inauguration of the Karavali Utsav.
The DC said that district cleanliness committee has taken measures to maintain cleanliness. An awareness on Swaccha Bharath will also be created.

The State government through Kannada and Culture department has released Rs 50 lakh for the Utsav. The estimated expenditure is likely to be Rs 1.50 crore.

Exhibition

MUDA Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer, who is in charge of the exhibition, said that along with the exhibition on artifacts, various government departments will exhibit various schemes of the government.

There are fun fare for children and aged. The stall by Pilikula will project their programmes. The forest department will come up with a live demonstration on conserving forest, agriculture department will exhibit farm equipment while Mangalore City Corporation will have demonstration on solid waste management unit. Stall by MRPL, KMF, veterinary department will highlight their schemes and products.

Quiz

DDPI Walter D’Mellow said that as a part of Karavali Utsav celebrations, quiz competitions will be organised for the schoolchildren. The selected children at the school-level will take part in block-level competition scheduled to be held on December 20. The selected teams at the block-level will take part in the district-level competition at Canara Girls High School, Dongarkery, on December 26.

The quiz will be conducted in two categories, viz., general knowledge with history, politics, culture and sports and science quiz. All the children who participated in the taluk and district-level contest will get appreciation certificates.

Kabaddi contest


MCC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that state-level flood-lit Kabaddi tournament will be held at Nehru Maidan on December 31 and January 1.

The selected eight teams each in men and women categories will take part. The matches will be held between 5 pm and 10 pm. The winners will get Rs 1 lakh, Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000 cash awards. The best catcher, attacker will get Rs 5,000 each. Olympian M R Poovamma  and Mamatha Poojary will be invited for the inaugural programme. All sports talent from the district who have represented at the national-level sports tournament will be felicitated.

Procession

Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that procession for the Karavali Utsav will be inaugurated at Nehru Maidan by Sadananda Suvarna. The procession will pass through A B Shetty Circle, Hampankatte, Navabharath Circle-PVS-MG Road before culminating at Karavali Utsav grounds. About 45 folk teams will take part in the procession.

Documentary contest

Yathish Bykampady said that as a part of Karavali Utsav celebrations, a competition on documentary making on Karavali Utsav will be held. The duration of the documentary should be 12-minute. It should provide an overall view of Karavali Utsav. The best documentary film will get Rs 25,000. The participants should register in advance with the District Information Officer.

Similarly, photography competition will be organised. The participants should furnish both soft and hard copy of the photosgraphs. Ten photographs should be submitted for the contest. The photographs should be submitted to the District Information Officer. The first prize winner will get Rs 5,000.
