In a pre-dawn operation, the Army and Assam Police on Friday captured seven hard-core terrorists of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit faction) responsible for the December carnage in Assam.
The operation was carried out by Army troops of 21 Division under 4 Corps and Kokrajhar Police in Ripu forest of Kokrajhar.
The captured terrorists include Mathinga and another trained NDFB (S) terrorist. They were part of the action team involved in the carnage on December 23 in lower Assam.
More than 70 columns of the Army and Assam Rifles are now functioning in Assam and adjoining states with the aim of restoring stability and flushing out the militants so that the atmosphere becomes more conducive for people to return to their homes.
The General Officer Commanding of 4 Corps, located in the worst-hit Sonitpur district, heads the Unified Command which conducts the counter insurgency operations in Assam.
