Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the quality of civil works in the State.

Addressing the media after inaugurating the premises of the Karnataka Engineers Academy here, he said, “Road and building works in the State and City are not at all of good quality. Works done by BBMP are very poor.

Government spent crores of rupees last year on improving roads, but their condition remains the same. Cost of projects can escalate, but quality should not be compromised with.”

Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa said that projects were becoming expensive due to escalation in cost of construction materials. Thus execution of works is becoming expensive. “Engineers should think of recycling construction materials and debris.

They should do more research on eco-friendly technologies,” he said.  Five engineers from various government departments were honoured on the occasion.
