Karagada water project will be speeded up: Jain

District incharge Minister K Abhayachandra Jain has said that State government was committed to solve row over encroachment of forest and revenue lands.

Speaking at the 66th Republic Day celebrations here on Monday, he said the government had been responding to the needs of people. The work on UGD (underground drainage) at Chikkamagaluru town will be completed shortly.

Stating that Rs 15 crore has been released for completing the ambitious Karagada drinking water project, Jain said the work would be accelerated.

A revised estimate has been prepared to irrigate 58,000 acres of farm land in Tarikere taluk under Upper Bhadra project. Under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGs), employment has been provided to 26,713 households in the district, he added.

Parade winners

The NCC cadets, Seva Dala and Scouts and Guides carried out an attractive march past on the occasion. The winners are Mountain View High School (first), Government PU College Seva Dala girls team (second), Guides team of St Joseph’s High School (third), IDSG College NCC team and Asha Kirana School for Blind won consolation prizes.

Prizes given

Prizes were given to the winners of district-level cycle competition.

The winners of essay and drawing competition on Aadhaar are Saday Kumar of Government PU College, Chikkamagaluru (first), A K Sharadi of Darshini Composite High School, Sringeri (second), V Nidhi of Morarji Desai Residential School, Narasimharajapura (third).

District-level Sarvothama Seva awards were conferred on District Surgeon Dr Doddamallappa, District officer for the Welfare of differently abled K A Gopalakrishna, District Child Protection Officer G Basavaraj, Tarikere taluk Gadihalli PDO B Anjappa, Tarikere Government Hospital nurse U M Manjappa and senior vehicle driver at DC’s office P S Srinivas.
