Move over Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Here comes a social networking site which allows you to connect with people who have the same commute route as you and with whom you can share a ride similar to carpooling.

Letsride.in allows users to find people who commute on the same route as they do. This can be verified as all the profiles are linked to a person’s profile on other networking sites so as to ascertain with whom one is sharing a ride. The site, already popular in Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi, is now getting thumbs-up in Namma Bengaluru with at least 3,000 people having already joined it and making use of the community ride-sharing concept.

Rajkumar Mundel, one of the founders of Letsride.in, was recently in Bengaluru to promote the concept.

He says, “It’s a community-driven ride-sharing social platform. For a city like Bengaluru where traffic is always chock-a-block, such a minimalistic approach will help save the environment as well as reduce chaos on the roads, thus saving travel time for every road user.” In three weeks, there will be a mobile application which riders can use to connect to others to find the same commute route, he added.

The Letsride.in team recently met the traffic police top brass who keep encouraging community ride-sharing and carpooling schemes on their Facebook page and the website.
“The meeting with Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B Dayananda was quite positive and he has assured us all possible help in promoting the concept,” Mundel said.

How to join
To join Letsride.in, one has to fill a daily commute form on the site and add a profile to it. Thereafter, one can search route or area and after finding people with same routes, one can follow them and decide if they want to share a ride, be it in a car or auto-rickshaw or even two-wheeler. One can post and connect for a daily commute as well as for a one-time commute from the City to nearby places.

Many Bengalureans have joined the site and identified themselves as passenger or owner of vehicles who are willing to share a ride. To ensure the safety of those who share rides, Letsride.in recommends some safety aspects.

For example, if possible, one should meet their driver/rider in a public place before getting into their car besides getting references such as work or other contact number for the driver/rider.

One can also contact someone for a reference. If one has any bad experience or a problem during the ride, they can contact the Letsride.in team at 90493 51066.
