A vegetarian feast

Popular among people of all ages, the ‘Up Cycle Cafe’ promotes the concept of reuse, reduce and recycle. The interiors of the place have been designed with various items that, as the name suggests, have been ‘up-cycled’.

Many items of everyday use are remodelled as pieces of art here. The furniture is made out of re-used pallet wood, which was originally used for making shipping containers.

Scrap bicycle’s tyres are used as a piece of art on the wooden panels; shelves are made of plumbing pipes and lampshades here are made out of inverted cane baskets. Says Deepa Amarnath, proprietor of ‘Up Cycle Café’, “There is no limit to creativity in this industry.

There may be a few ideas that are well-received and a few that may not be. But the freedom of expression remains nevertheless. Besides creativity, the industry also gives ample scope to us to learn the technicalities of food processing, costing, pricing, people management and vendor management.”

The idea of ‘Up Cycle Café’ came from a team that consisted of a food consultant with a vast experience in the industry; an interior decorator and architect committed to the cause of recycling. 

The relaxed atmosphere of the place helps people sit back and enjoy the flavours of food. One can relish a variety of Continental and Indian dishes here with a choice of drinks. The popular items here include waffles, pancakes, sizzlers, ‘rajma masala’ with ‘jeera’ rice, various forms of manchurians and pastas. The cafe also provides tasty beverages like ‘lassi’ and cold coffee. 

“We want to provide our customers a homely dining experience at a reasonable price,” sums up Deepa Amarnath. ‘Up Cycle Cafe’ is located next to Rajarajeshwarinagar Police Station, opposite Shopping City Mall. It is open between 11 am and 10 pm on all days except Tuesdays. For details, call 65700549.
