Showrooms of Malabar Gold and Diamonds are where the company showcases its innovations. The company, which doesn’t want to be known as just another jewellery brand, is pulling all stops to make its presence felt in the market.

It recently opened its 123rd outlet at Gold Souk, Dubai, which was inaugurated by Kareena Kapoor Khan, and the beautiful actress did manage to create quite a flutter.

The showroom boasts of being the largest jewellery store in Dubai and employs people of 10 nationalities, speaking 31 languages. Its enviable range of jewellery collection is sourced from ten countries.

On a recent visit to Dubai, Deccan Herald’s Nina C George got Abdul Salam KP, group executive director,  Malabar Group, chatting about what keeps the brand ahead of its competitors and what makes its designs one-of-a-kind.

What makes your brand different?
It is the warmth that we extend to our customers that makes us different. It’s not just a business proposition that we extend to people, but we also go the extra mile to make sure people get exactly what they’re looking for.

The showroom exhibits a diverse and unique collection of branded jewellery with a distinctive, artful accent which include Ethnix (handcrafted designer jewellery), Era (uncut diamonds), Mine (diamonds unlimited), Divine (Indian heritage jewellery), Precia (precious gem jewellery), and Starlet (kids jewellery). Each of the categories are exclusive.

The showroom flaunts a gold replica of Burj Khalifa, a gold bar, and a hand-crafted gold attire. How did you select these themes?
The gold replica of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, has been made in 18 carat gold and is 6-feet tall. It is our tribute to the City of Dubai.

The gold bar in 24 carat gold weighs 160 kg, and the short hand-crafted dress in gold has been very thoughtfully created to showcase our creativity and prowess in jewellery design.
The dress has been intricately woven. It required over 3,600 manhours to craft it to perfection, and 30 expert craftsmen worked tirelessly for 15 days to create the golden marvel.

Are these replicas for sale?
Yes, why not? If someone is willing to buy them, we could sell it. Although it hasn’t been made with the intention to sell but to give people an insight into our unique craftsmanship.
The dress is very popular with women customers and we do get enquiries to make them something similar.

You mentioned your jewellery designers are hand-picked? Could you elaborate?
Every piece of jewellery that bears our brand is unique and cut to perfection. A lot of research has gone into creating each piece. Our team of designers have an international exposure and are well-versed with what works and what doesn’t.

Our showroom in Dubai features the rarest and finest collection from India, Malaysia, Turkey, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Thailand, Italy, Spain, and Bahrain, in gold and diamonds to suit the tastes of both resident and international customers.

There’s jewellery in 24, 22, 21 and 18 caratage — from lightweight daily wear to bridal jewellery in traditional as well as contemporary designs. Also on display are spectacular collections of both uncut and polished diamonds.
