Mangalore University former vice chancellor and former UGC member Prof M I Savadatti said that Yoga leads to the subjective realisation of truth. Yoga is not mere science but super science.

He was speaking after inaugurating the three-day international conference on ‘Yoga  therapy for stress disorders’ organised by the department of Human consciousness and yogic sciences and Dharmanidhi Yoga Peetha of Mangalore University in Mangalagangothri on Tuesday.

Science cannot reach to the level of Yoga as Yoga deals with all the three aspects body, mind and soul and is subjective.  A person who becomes yogi will have subjective realisation of truth. All sciences speak about cause and effect, as science takes only objective reality, he said.

Prof Savadatti further said that Suryanamaskara, which was part of our culture has been vanishing.  It is a paradox that we accept the ancient traditional practices only after they are certified by foreigners. At this juncture, rediscovery of Indian knowledge is needed before it is too late, he said and lamented that yoga is commercialised nowadays.

South Korean Digital University Professor Seo Jeong Seon, who was the guest of the honour said that Yoga is one of the most ancient forms of spiritual healing, originated in India and is the contribution to the world. The Asian countries share the responsibility to popularise yoga. She felt it was important to apply yoga to the modern world.

Human consciousness and yogic sciences department Head Dr K Krishna Sharma said that only asanas and pranayama are not yoga. Yoga is about the control of body and mind. It is the way of life, through which one can get relaxation which in turn leads to spiritual attainment.

Mangalore University and Korean Digital University signed a memorandum of understanding towards academic studies and cultural exchange in Yoga. The MoU was a three years contract.

A souvenir was released by Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa, who presided over the inaugural session. Bangalore University former Vice Chancellor and JSS Foundation for Science and Society, Bengaluru, Director Prof K Siddappa was the chief guest. University Registrar Prof P S Yadapadithaya was present.

260 delegates including 27 foreign delegates took part in the conference. As many as 100 papers are likely to be presented.
