Swine flu infects 9 IPS trainees in Telangana

The Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy here is in the grip of the swine flu with nine IPS trainees testing positive for the H1N1 virus. Thirty-eight other cases of swine flu were also confirmed in the state on the same day.

The nine IPS probationers were admitted to different hospitals in the city and discharged. Throat swab samples were taken from all trainees who complained of cough, cold and fever.
As a precautionary measure at the police academy, 917 vaccines were administered to the trainees, workers, faculty and their families. Besides, 2,764 doses of homeopathic medicine were also distributed.

On Saturday, a team of six doctors, including Special Officer for Epidemics G Srinivas Rao and Ranga Reddy District Surveillance Officer Lalitha, camped at the academy. They conducted a sensitisation programme on H1N1 for IPS probationers, participants of other courses, faculty and staff.

All the trainees were screened for the H1N1 virus, and those who were showing symptoms were given prophylactic treatment.
