Legendary singer Yesudas rendered a mesmerising concert as part of the ‘77th Ramanavami Music Festival’ at Old Fort High School Grounds recently.  The concert started with the melodious ‘Idaya Kanyake’ taking the audience into another world.

Through the concert, the singer experimented with rare ‘kritis’ and a variety of ‘alapanas’. He ensured that every song touched the listener’s soul. The rendering of ‘Vathapi Ganapathim’ in ‘Hamsadhwani’, showcased the singer’s virtuosity with the classical idiom.

The song ‘Gurudeva’ got an excellent response from the ‘rasikas’. He communicated with the audience the essence of the compositions, leaving them delighted.
Yesudas’ connection with the accompaniments was brilliant. In between the performance, the singer praised the instrumentalists for their excellent rendition and revelled in the purity of notes.

“‘Ramnavami Music Festival’ goes synonymous with Yesudas’ performance. Some of the compositions and kritis that he sang are rarely heard in present-day concerts. It is magical to witness him perform live,” said Nitya, one of the listeners.

In its 77th year, the Ramanavmi music fest is one-of-its-kind and has seen some big names like Vishaka Hari, Bombay Jayashree, Aruna Krishna and even young, promising artistes like Manasa Shastry, Apoorva Krishna and many more.

The upcoming concerts include those of Shwetha Venkatesh, Neyveli Santhanagoplan and others.
