Rain brings traffic chaos, chill to Bengaluru

Last Updated 13 April 2015, 21:36 IST

Heavy downpour lead to snail-paced vehicular movement and frequent power outages in most parts of the City on Monday. The City received 10.8 mm of rainfall till 5:30 pm.

There was also a drop in temperature as the City recorded a maximum and minimum of 28.3 and 19.2 degrees celsius respectively. Normally, the maximum temperature is 34 degrees celsius and minimum temperature is 22 degrees celsius during this time of the year.

Several people sported woollens and raincoats to beat the chill and rain. Heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm is likely to continue for the next two to three days, said Met Department (Bengaluru) Director S M Metri.

He said a trough from interior Karnataka to Comorin area embedded with upper air cyclonic circulation is bringing rainfall to the City and other parts of interior Karnataka.

It was a bumper-to-bumper ride on Bannerghatta Road, Magadi Road, Mysore Road, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Double Road, Church Street, Brigade Road, Shivajinagar, M G Road, Ulsoor, Majestic, Johnson Market and surrounding areas.

In many places, there was ankle deep water due to which motorists, particularly two-wheelers, had a harrowing experience. The BBMP control room received several complaints of water logging.

Water gushed into homes around Yelahanka and Papareddypalya. A tree was uprooted in Yeshwanthpur, a BBMP control room staff said.
