A walk into the sunset

It was a sparkling evening of colour and camaraderie at ‘The Lions Charity Ball’ that was held at Vivanta by Taj, Whitefield, recently. Organised by the Whitefield Lions Club Services Trust, the event was for a social cause and the proceeds of the evening went to the common pool of the trust, that will later be used for the community projects of Lions Club.

The event started around 7 pm with a cocktail after which a short film about the club and their projects were showcased.

The highlight of the evening was the fashion show which was organised by fashion guru Prasad Bidapa. The fashion show included three sequences and kickstarted with the sunset collection, where the models catwalked in style in bright red and orange. It went on to the monochromatic collection, where men and women, sashayed in striking black and white outfits, in contrast to the bright evening. The final collection included the ‘Red and Purple Sequence’ which was a special collection.

The final sequence lifted up the atmosphere when the models danced while walking on the ramp. The models were from ‘Prasad Bidapa Model Management’ group and portrayed the designs of the Bangladeshi designer, Bibi Russell.

Prasad Bidapa said, “For the evening, we decided to showcase the works of Bibi Russell because this is the year we are planning to celebrate ‘khadi’. Bibi Russell seems to be the perfect fit as she works with Indian prints, weavers, hand-loom and khadi. She is very earthy and ethnic in her and designs. Not only is ‘khadi’ the fabric of our freedom but it is considered as a contemporary luxury brand today.”

About the event, Prasad said, “An event for education is a wonderful initiative by the Lions Club because our country has failed millions of children when it comes to education.” Positive about the future of the fashion industry in the country, Prasad added that India will soon become a global name in fashion.

Mukul Agarwal, the President of Lions Club said, “We decided on organising a fashion show this year because we wanted our guests to have an entertaining evening. The planning for the event took a little over two months but we were happy to receive timely support from our friends and family. We did face a few challenges in the beginning such as finding sponsors and the space but today is the proof that everything has come together. Education faces a huge challenge in our country and our aim is to work towards such social initiatives as much as possible.” Anand Rathi was the prime sponsor for the event.

Kala, one of the members, says that the committee welcomed the idea of a fashion show this year. “We started our charity events five years back, where we started with a small fair and went on to conduct bigger events like have concerts and dance shows.” Mahima, a young volunteer, was also excited to be a part of the Charity Ball and felt happy that a number of guests had turned up to support a social initiative.

To lighten the atmosphere, Sanjay Sathish, a young singer, mesmerised the audience with two fillers — the popular ‘Mitwaa’ and a song from the yesteryears.

A silent auction of paintings of different artists was also held throughout the evening. There was also a special moment when Prasad Bidapa called a few guests to walk the ramp. The event culminated with a group photo of the committee members on stage.
