Bengaluru, which is known for its ‘pret-a-porte’ culture, is geared up to witness the colourful ‘Karnataka Fashion Week’ (KFW), from April 30 to May 2, at The Collonnade, Leela Palace. This was announced at an event that was held in the City recently.

On this occasion, the audience saw a glimpse of the collections of the participating designers at KFW 2015. Models wore the designers’ collection and walked the ramp in style and splendour. The event started with the clothes of India’s leading designers, Abraham and Thakore, whose work focusses on diffusion lines and culminated with a model sporting Nimirta Lalwani’s ‘Spring Summer Collection of 2015’. Nimirta’s line-up consists of an eclectic range of ‘summery’ clothes of serene, evening colours from peach to pink.

Models also sported Tara Aslam’s brainchild; her clothes are of simple weaves and natural dyes with colours indigo and white. She said that each thread weaves out stories of handloom and textile weavers of Karnataka. Ritu Pande’s ‘Ladies in Lace’, embellished with crepes and chiffon also grabbed eyeballs.

Bangladeshi designer, Bibi Russell’s earthy collection of ‘kota-doria’ and ‘khadi’ and the authentic and indigenous designs of Arup and Pavitra had their share in spotlight. Designers Arup and Pavitra’s collection comprised ‘lungis’ and revived South Indian saris. Each fabric was a trip down the memory lane.

At the event, Pavitra said, “We will be showcasing a collection of classic designs that stand testimony to our heritage and are a symbol of revival. Such collections are very personal to me and are unique with respect to story and technique.” Jaheena’s shimmering bridal wear also stunned the audience. The sheer variety of the this year’s collection will take the audience to dizzying heights. The event culminated with the models walking the ramp together. KFW 2015 will showcase five top designers from the City who will share the platform with designers from New Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. KFW will give a chance for the young and old in Bengaluru to witness the cream of the design pool in India.

Around 33 leading designers will make their mark for over three days. The other designers who will set foot include Jason and Anshu, Runa Ray and Seema Malhotra. Prasad continues to work and support ‘khadi’ and Indian textile weavers. On the first two days of the show, a few weavers of Karnataka who work with Tara Aslam and Pavitra Muddaya will be honoured. Prasad Bidapa says that this fashion week is important. “Such a show also creates a serious viewpoint of fashion in Bengaluru. We offer Bengaluru-based designers a platform which exposes them to new audiences.”
