After remaining in throes of a garbage crisis, the City would get six waste processing units, which will soon be operational.

On Wednesday, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) chairperson Vaman Acharya and its senior environment officer Venkatesh Shekar and Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) Darpan Jain visited two indoor 'state-of-the-art' garbage processing units.

Rs 340 crore project

The officials visited two units at Lingadheeranahalli and Subramanyapalya in the City. These units with a garbage processing capacity of 250 tonnes a day were set up with a cost of Rs 340 crore.

The project has been funded by the KUIDFC. The KSPCB claimed that the indoor units do not emanate foul stench, do not pollute the surroundings, generate bio-manure and release a very little amount of residue that can be taken out of the City limits.
The other four units are coming up at Chikka Nagamangala, Kannahalli, Seegehalli and Dodda Bidarakallu on the outskirts of the City.

Reviving rivers

Vaman Acharya said Arkavathi and Kumudvathi rivers can be revived by pumping in treated water into the lakes in the watershed region.

He was speaking at a programme organised to commemorate the World Earth Day. Acharya said the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) should pay more attention to set up waste water treatment plants at the lakes.
