In a bid to retain its top position in Indian luxury market, German luxury carmaker Audi on Saturday, launched a new version of its sports car Audi TT Coupé priced at Rs 61.70 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru).

Working in combination with a six-speed S-tronic transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive, the 2.0 turbo fuel stratified injection (TFSI) engine that churns out 230 horse power (hp) accelerates the new Audi TT Coupé from zero to 100 km/hr in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/hr.

“This is the first of the five launches that we have planned in the next five months. Despite economic downturn last year, we have grown,” Audi India Head Joe King told reporters recently in Delhi.

“Re-engineered for more power, the all-new Audi TT Coupe blends dynamic aesthetics with innovative technology and inspired performance,” King said.

“Both our product launches of 2015 — the limited edition Audi R8 LMX and the all-new Audi TT Coupe — have a strong sporty flair that highlights Audi’s heritage in sports cars and our leadership in this segment in India,” King added.

Audi plans to launch a total of 10 products in India this year as it looks to fend off stiff competition from rival Mercedes-Benz.  The company, which sells various popular brands including A3 sedan and Q5 sports utility vehicle, was overtaken in India sales by Mercedes-Benz in the January-March period of 2015.

While Audi posted a growth of 15 per cent in the March quarter at 3,139 units, Mercedes-Benz  sold 3,566 units, up 40 per cent from the year-ago period.

Audi posted a record sales in 2014-15 by selling 11,292 units, up 11.51 per cent from 10,126 units sold in 2013-14 and retained its top position in the Indian luxury car market ahead of rival Mercedes-Benz. The latter also clocked record sales in FY15 at 11,213 units, up 17.5 per cent from 9,548 units sold in the previous year.
