Tension prevailed in outer Delhi’s Bawana on Saturday when a mob went on a rampage over the death of a 11-year-old girl. They vandalised a police booth and government vehicles besides blocking traffic and shouting slogans against Delhi Police.

Locals turned violent after the girl was found dead in a drain in Bawana on Friday.
Police said she was reported missing from outside her house in outer Delhi’s Narela on Tuesday. Police have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault before murder.

The girl lived with her family in Bawana JJ Colony and hailed from Uttar Pradesh. She was a student of a local government school.

Initially, a missing person complaint was filed which was later converted to a case of kidnapping with Narela police station.

Police had questioned several locals, but could not establish the sequence of events.
It has now been revealed that staff of KN Katju Marg police station in outer Delhi had recovered the body on Wednesday.

But Narela police station did not inform the girl’s family for three days. Police finally approached the girl’s family on Friday after which her father identified the body.
“There were injury marks on the body,” a police officer said.

After an initial probe, police suspect that the girl may have been raped before being killed.
Furious kin
Her family members and locals were furious that the body was recovered within hours, but they were not informed.

On Saturday, a protest was held in Bawana during which people damaged a police booth and three police motorcycles.

The incident led to traffic snarls in the area and traffic was hit on roads leading to Rohini, Alipur and GT Road for over three hours.

“Additional force was sent to the spot to control the situation and disperse the mob,” police said.

A case has been filed over the girl’s death with Narela police station.
Another case of rioting has been registered against unknown persons for creating ruckus and damaging public property.
