The Central Park in Connaught Place will soon be turned into a popular tourist destination. The New Delhi Municipal Council is planning to upgrade the park at the “world-class” level by adding high-end fountains and colourful plantation here.

The park will soon have dancing and musical fountains to attract more tourists. There will be laser shows for tourists in the evenings as well.

“The laser show will create aesthetic designs by employing effects of timed sound waves and timed lights. This will involve programmed computerised control systems,” said an NDMC official.

The council has floated an expression of interest (EOI) inviting consultants to bid for the project.

With the Central Park housing the highest monumental flagpole in the Capital, the NDMC is now also planning to develop the area into one of the finest horticultural zones.

The flag, 90-feet wide and 60-feet long, have been damaged a few times since it was installed last year. Now, the council is planning to restrict public entry around the flagpole so that it is better maintained.

Maintenance row
Tourists often damage the pole by writing their names on it. Earlier, there was a tussle between the council and the Flag Foundation of India over the maintenance of the national flag.

The other new features which will help upgrade the park besides better landscaping are use of graffiti, modern art painting, sculptures, stones and pebbles on the pathway and music system.

Electronic informatory boards will also be installed in the park. The amphitheatre in the park will also be beautified with high-end plantations.

As the park is likely to experience heavy footfall, the council is also planning to equip the park with high-tech security along with arrangements for disaster management techniques.

The Central Park is a popular spot for those visiting Connaught Place. The park has been attracting more tourists since the monumental flag was installed here.
