It is not just human beings who are on the radar of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel deployed in quake-hit Nepal, they have also recovered over Rs 2.63 lakh Nepal currency and gold ornaments.

The recovered cash, gold and electronic equipment have been handed over to Nepal authorities, officials said.

Besides, the personnel have got hold of one gold necklace,  two each mangalsutras and bangles, three each fold chains and earrings and four rings besides other gold ornaments weighing 100 grams.

They have also recovered one tablet, two cameras, three hard disks and eight mobile phones during the past one week.

This is not the first time that NDRF personnel have earned appreciation for handing over valuables and cash during their operations in disaster zones. When they were deployed in Japan in 2011 after earth quake and tsunami leading to Fukushima tragedy, they had earned the praise for recovering 50 million Yen and handing it over to local
authorities.

The NDRF team was deployed at Rifu Cho in Japan for 12 days from March 27, 2013. While the team extricated seven bodies from the rubble more than two weeks after the disaster struck the area, they also recovered the money apart from other valuables.

They gained appreciation from local authorities, media and public for their work and the Japan conveyed its appreciation to the Indian embassy in Tokyo during the operations.

“People who were living in rehab camp in Onagawa town hall gave vote of thanks to Indian team. The dedication and honesty of the team was highly appreciated by the mayor of Onagawa. The mayor of Rifu Cho also thanked and expressed his gratitude to the Indian team for help and support provided to the people of the Miyagi in general and Onagawa in particular,” an NDRF document said.
