GLORIOUS DAYS

It’s graduation time for the students of class 10 and 12. While some are excited, others are a bundle of nerves about the road that lies ahead. The students, many of whom are looking forward to their first graduation ceremony, share their thoughts with Metrolife.

Rishan S, a class ten student of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School who plans to get back to the same school for class 11 and 12, says, “It’s an exciting time. Although it’s going to be a new phase, it’s comforting to see that many students are planning to come back here especially since we have been in the same school for many years.” He adds, “I’m looking forward to be a part of another graduation ceremony here.”

Having made many friends over the last 12 years, Pranav Kinger, another class ten student from the same school, says, “We’ve been together for so many years and now, we will probably be meeting only after the exams. We can’t wait to be done with the board exams.” His friend Keshav Bhandari adds, “We share a great bond with our teachers and friends and will miss them dearly.”

Class 12 student Emily Shadroch says that school will remain an important part of her life. Be it the morning assembly or the tasty delights of the canteen, she will miss them all. “The environment is so familiar. Most of our teachers have taught us from the time we were kids and know us by name. There have been a lot of good and bad experiences all of which have helped me grow,” she says, adding, “I just don’t want to leave. Now I have to worry every morning about what to wear to college.”

Amrapali, who is currently in second PUC at Patel Group of Institutions, says she can’t wait to graduate. “The best part is that I don’t have to study subjects that don’t interest me. I can finally do what I want to without having to learn the subjects I care little about,” she says, adding, “I’d felt the same excitement when I was graduating from class ten. But now when I look back, I miss those days so much. When people say that school days are the best, we tend to disagree. It’s only after we pass out that we realise that they were right.”

Shounak Roy, a class twelve student, says that although the challenges of the future are worrisome, the joy of graduating is a different feeling altogether. “It’s a feeling that I can’t describe. There is excitement on one hand but the uncertainty that lies ahead is scary.” Parents are anxious too. “I’m proud to see my daughter graduating. But I seem to be more worried than she is. At this point, many decisions need to be made,” says Sripriya, the mother of a class 12 student.
