'We are more like friends'

Kannada actor Meghana Raj believes cinema is a reflection of reality because it mirrors what happens around.

   “Reality and cinema are two sides of the same coin. But topics from everyday life, or off beat subjects as they are often described as, have few takers. Most people are not willing to invest their money in subjects that have no room for masala," Meghana points out.

 Meghana has a lot of projects in Malayalam but it is not until recently that she began accepting a lot of projects from the Kannada film industry. She admits she is a little choosy when it comes to signing on the dotted line. “I don’t want to sound preachy in movies. Cinema must entertain people for three hours and leave them feeling good at the end of it,” she states. 

The shooting for ‘Allama’ hasn’t started but Meghana was put through a series of workshops to understand how to portray the character in the best way possible. ‘Allama’ will be a period film set in the 12th century and Meghana plays the role of a dancer named Mayadevi. She has almost completed shooting for ‘Antagara’ which is directed by KM Chaitanya. “It’s a multi-starrer and I play a supermodel in it. It’s not just the storyline that is unique. Every character is the story has a definite purpose and is strong in its own way.”

 She has recently signed up for ‘Bhujanga’ opposite Prajwal. “I play the role of a girl who is gullible and someone who can easily be taken for a ride. She comes from an affluent family and Prajwal plays the role of a thief in the movie. It’s a sweet love story,” she adds. 

Meghana has had her share of link-ups in the Kannada film industry, especially with Chiranjeevi Sarja. She clarifies, “Chiru, Prajwal and I started out together in the film industry and we are more like friends. People can say whatever they want but it isn’t going to change anything,” she sums up.
