Gonzalo Jara gets three-game ban for poking Cavani's bump

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) Disciplinary Unit on Monday announced they decided a three-official game suspension of Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara after he inappropriately touched Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.

Last Wednesday, in the quarter-final game between Chile and Uruguay, Jara inappropriately touched Cavani, who slapped Jara in the face and received a yellow card which led to his expulsion, since he had already had one, Xinhua news agency reported.

At first, Jara's actions went unseen by referees but the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) formally accused Jara and CONMEBOL decided to temporarily suspend Jara, who will not play the rest of Copa America.

Jara, player in Germany's Mainz 05, will also be out of the first game of Russia 2018 qualifying tournament.

On the other hand, Chile's National Association of Professional Football formally accused seven Uruguayan players but CONMEBOL said they will announce the decision after Copa America ends.

The Chilean Association said they expect the Uruguayan players will be punished for their behaviour during the game, where they insulted the referees, the fans and the Chilean players.
