Three held for assaulting 14-year-old

Another brutal gang-rape of a Dalit minor has been reported from Budaon district in Uttar Pradesh.

The alleged culprits not only gang-raped the 14-year-old victim but also inflicted severe injuries on her private parts as a result of which she reportedly went into a depression.

Though the assault took place five days back, it came to light only when an FIR was lodged by the police on Sunday evening following intervention from senior officials. Three persons have been arrested.

The victim, who initially did not reveal the incident to anyone, later confided to her cousin.
Police sources said, the victim was on the way to a shop in Civil Lines area in Budaon town when three youths kidnapped her and took her to a secluded spot, where two of them allegedly raped her.

The medical examination of the victim came as a shock to the doctors and the family members after articles, including a piece of cloth, were found in her private parts. The doctors suspected that the articles might have been inserted well after the alleged gang-rape.

Doctors also said there was swelling in her private parts and the kidney. “We will also conduct a DNA test of the culprits,” said a senior official in Budaon.

A few months ago, two cousins were allegedly gang-raped and later hanged from a tree at a village in Budaon. Though the CBI, which investigated the case, disputed the incident, a local court is hearing a petition challenging the agency’s version.
