We all look forward to our cosy bed after a gruelling day. Our bed is the place where we rejuvenate, dream new things and get some much-needed sleep. Seeing that it is such an important part of our lives, it’s only justified that we spend great time and dedicate loads of attention to our bed. From just a humble mat on the floor to featherlight options, beds have come a long way. But, even today, doctors recommend the mat on the floor as a cure for most of our physical ailments.

Multiple options

With time, the mat transformed into luxurious beds and cots. There are innumerable options for cots that are available in the market. So, how does one choose the perfect one? Well, here are some options to help you make a choice:

l Standard cot, made out of various types of wood, is a common yet popular option. These cots can have either a plain headboard or an intricate one, depending upon your tastes. They can play a double role too. Storage space beneath the same can accommodate the extra bedding and blankets.

l For a dash of drama, go in for a divan-cum-bed. This is a great space saver as one of the cots can be slid below the other so that it will become a single cot or a comfortable divan. The uneven height of the cots when spread is compensated by having separate beds which can match the height evenly. You can enjoy extra storage space in this type of bed too.

l Another variant is the sofa-cum-bed. Sofa during the day and a bed for the night, these ingenious beds are majorly used for a home that entertains guests. l Wrought iron cot is the most commonly used alternative to the wooden option, considering its cost effectiveness. They are available in a variety of designs and colours. Plus they are light and portable. The only thing to remember here is that they need to be kept clean periodically to avoid dust settling in the edges and on the frames. When not in use, the legs can be folded and the cot can be stored in any corner.

l For those who are not big fans of height, there are platform cots. Available in a variety of wooden makes, these cots are known for their low heights and set a tone of understated simplicity in your bedroom. Go in for a platform cot in a dark polished tone as this can complement the usage of neutral coloured bedspreads and embroidered pillows, with a suitable rug on the floor.

l For those who love opulence, the maharaja cot is perfect. This one is all about elaborate designs, carved headboards and big sizes. Beautifully carved cots of teak (preferably), honne and mathi wood are generally preferred for these high-end beauties.

l For the little ones, it is best to go in for bunker beds. Nowadays, bunker beds come in a great variety that appeal to the child’s curiosity. You can either go in for a bed in wood or steel, depending on the budget and comfort factor. Moreover, these bunker beds come in with loads of storage space to cater to all your child’s needs.

At the end of the day, whatever may be the design of the cot, you also need to invest in comfortable cushions, beds and pillows. Remember to keep in mind the colour of the wood though, before you indulge in those fancy bedsheets and covers.
