Setting an example for his colleagues accused of land grabbing, an UP minister has transferred his ancestral land worth crores to a man cleaned out by fighting court cases against him.

Reports said Babulal, a resident of Barabanki district moved a district court over a piece of land belonging to UP’s minister of state for forests Farid Kidwai.

Babulal claimed he bought the land and produced the sale deed, while Kidwai also showed papers entitling him to the land during his deposition. It later turned out that the minister’s land had been fraudulently sold to Babulal and the documents he possessed were fake. The court pronounced its verdict a few days ago dismissing Babulal’s claims over the land.

Having lost all his money over the fake deal and prolonged litigation, Babulal had a pleasant surprise when the minister offered to transfer the land deeds to him.

“I came to know that Babulal was a poor man and he had been cheated...I gave him the land...he needs the land more than me,” Kidwai said. The land is reportedly worth crores of rupees. An overwhelmed Babulal expressed his gratitude to the minister. “I have no words to express my feelings for the minister,” he remarked.

Ironically, several of Kidwai’s ministerial colleagues face cases of land grabbing.
