The 17-day ordeal faced by residents of Queen’s Corner came to end on Thursday as they returned to their flats from a nearby hotel where they had been staying since the compound wall of their apartment complex collapsed on June 15, 2015.

The families were relieved to step into Queen’s Corner, Bengaluru’s second-oldest apartment complex, on Queen’s Road. Thirty families living in ‘B’ Block returned on Thursday morning. Two more are yet to come back, said Margaret A, the manager of the complex.

On June 15, the residents had a harrowing wake-up. They found that their compound wall had collapsed, on account of the excavation being carried out on an adjacent plot. Some residents said the walls of their homes had cracked too.

Meanwhile, the final report submitted by the BBMP’s Technical Advisory Committee on Wednesday has certified that the Queen’s Corner apartment complex is safe, the Palike’s administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar told Deccan Herald. “In the interim report, we suggested strengthening of the wall and other safety measures which are being carried out,” he said.
