In a drive conducted on Thursday, the Transport department officials have booked cases against 10  BMTC buses for failing to meet the guidelines laid down by Supreme Court for school bus services.

These buses were used to ferry students of Sophia School near Chalukya Circle, an RTO official said.

The guidelines issued by the apex court state that all school buses must have the right permits as well as the text, “on school duty” prominently displayed on the vehicle. Other rules include the provision of a first-aid box and drinking water in the bus besides other safety measures like an emergency exit and lockable doors.

A notice was also issued to the Managing Director of BMTC in this connection. The RTO official said that there were more buses ferrying schoolchildren across the city and that the drive would continue. BMTC Managing Director Ekroop Caur said that BMTC had almost 300 buses which were used for ferrying schoolchildren.
