The Bangalore Club on Wednesday moved the high court seeking to quash proceedings initiated against it by the State government.

The Bengaluru Urban district administration on Tuesday had issued an order to the 148-year-old club to vacate its premises on Residency Road and handover the land to the government as the club authorities had failed to furnish the title deed showing ownership of the property. The petitioners have contended in the high court that the club is not on the government land and that the land was purchased by the club way back in 1867.

Justice Raghavendra S Chauhan, who heard the matter, suggested the club to amend the petition by challenging the government order and adjourned the hearing.

Meanwhile, baffled by the cancellation of the club’s ownership of 13 acres, its president G V Radhakrishnan on Wednesday informed the 6,000-odd members about measures taken to handle the issue and further course of action to protect the 148-year-old prestigious club.

Informing the members about moving the court, the club president said, “The committee would like to reassure all the members that we have been in possession of this land for the last 148 years and the ownership title is clear to prove the ownership of Bangalore Club over the 13 acres.”

The president told the members about the documents submitted to the Revenue Department such as notarised copy of the original sale deed of 1873 between Govindoo Shetty and Bangalore United Service Club, encumbrance certificate issued by the BBMP from 1873 to 2004, notarised khatha certificate and notarised khatha extract.
