President, PM Modi pay tributes to Kalam at airport

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid floral tributes to late former president A.P.J Abdul Kalam at the  technical area of the IGI Airport here.

Among other leaders present at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were Vice President Hamid Ansari, Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

A special Indian Air Force (IAF) plane carrying Kalam's mortal remains here  Delhi at around 12.30 p.m.

"IAF's C-130 J Super Hercules Aircraft carrying the mortal remains of Abdul Kalam arrives at Palam," defence ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar tweeted.

A ceremonial guard of honour was accorded to the former president by army, navy and air force personnel.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S.Bassi was also present at the airport. Kalam's body would be kept at 10 Rajaji Marg for people to pay respects.
