Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and Shashi Tharoor on Thursday stoked a fresh controversy as they questioned the hanging of Yakub Memon taking a divergent stand from their party.
While Singh demanded that the government show similar “exemplary urgency” in all cases of terrorism irrespective of the “caste, creed and religion” of those involved in it, Tharoor dubbed Yakub’s hanging as “state-sponsored” killing. The remarks drew a sharp retort from the BJP with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley demanding that Congress president Sonia Gandhi should clarify the statements of Tharoor and Singh.
