Two men were killed and four severely injured after a motorcycle collided with a scooter at a traffic intersection in north-west Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar late on Sunday, police said on Monday.

Police said the deceased were identified as Sarabjeet Singh, 26, and Lakhvinder Singh, 25, both residents of Punjab, and the injured are Manjeet, 23, and Deepak, Amit, and Shailendra, all aged 19.

Deepak, Amit and Shailendra are natives of Haryana and stay in Roop Nagar.

Sarabjeet and Lakhvinder stayed with Manjeet in rented accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar as they were taking coaching classes for competitive examinations, police said.

The incident took place around 1 am on Monday. As Sarabjeet, Lakhvinder and Manjeet reached the traffic intersection signal near Haqiqat Nagar on their motorcycle, their motorcycle collided with the scooter on which Deepak, Amit and Shailendra were travelling, police said.

Immediately after the incident, a PCR call was made and soon police reached the spot and took the injured to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where Sarabjeet and Lakhvinder succumbed to their injuries, police said.

“We are yet to ascertain where the youths were going when the accident took place. Further details can only be known after Manjeet is declared fit for statement,” said a senior police officer.

A case under the IPC has been registered with Mukherjee Nagar police station and further investigation is on.

Police are checking CCTV footage of the area to find out more information on the incident.
