The RSS kicked off its three-day “samanvay baitak” on Wednesday with other saffron stakeholders and union ministers, expressing concern over sluggish growth and development which is impacting the country’s fiscal health.

The RSS, said Sangh sources, which believes that the 2014 general election’s top priority mandate was to get the country’s economy back on track, had a detailed session on the “economic scenario” where representatives of the 15 right wing organisations “exchanged notes” on the ground to be covered for better performance.

“Economic scenario of Bharat and measures to improve growth and development were discussed” on the first day of the meeting held at Madhyanchal Bhavan in Vasant Kunj, confirmed  RSS spokesperson Dr Manmohan Vaidya. “Many constructive suggestions came up,” he tweeted.

It is learnt that BJP chief Amit Shah spoke about 15-month- old Modi government’s performance, highlighting key pro-poor schemes and successful diplomatic initiatives. Questions were raised, said Sangh sources, on the government’s output even though the RSS spokesperson said that the baitak went off “smoothly in cordial atmosphere”.

Sources said RSS functionaries nudged the government to implement One Rank One Pension (OROP) soon, at a meeting with the defence minister, citing the delay which had forced veteran fighters to go on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. Dr Vaidya had earlier indicated that OROP may come up at the meeting. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, however, told reporters that “specific policy issues are not discussed here and OROP is Government's policy decision”.

The select meeting, which was out of bounds for the media, was presided over by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and top union ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Manohar Parricker, BJP general secretaries Ram Lal and Ram Madhav attended. The RSS was also represented by general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi and seniors like Dattatreya Hosbale, Krishna Gopal, the pointsman between the Sangh and the BJP, and Suresh Soni.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the meeting on Thursday when social and culture related issues would come up. The Patel agitation for reservation, Census data on religious population and education policy are some of the other issues that are expected to be deliberated upon in the coordination meeting that takes places twice every year.
