The State Government has ordered a Lokayukta enquiry into the seizure of cash, jewellery and property documents from a posh apartment belonging to relatives of senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan, who is now principal secretary, youth empowerment and sports department.

Based on a tip off by the Income Tax Department, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had searched the 6th floor flat of Maple Block at Golden Grand properties in Yeshwanthpur on August 5 last. The CID, which was probing the cricket betting scam, got the lead and a search was conducted.

The CID officials had seized Rs 4.37 crore cash, gold and diamonds worth crores of rupees and property documents. The seized items include 42 CDs, a hard disk, an external data storage, 40,900 currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 5,700 notes of Rs 500 denomination.

The CID later submitted a report to the government stating that the seized documents had names of Kapil Mohan's father Naresh Mohan, his son Ahaan Mohan and another relative Mithlesh Saxena. The police found that the flat was purchased under the name of the firm, PSK Finance Solutions Pvt Limited.

There were also bills and receipts for the investment of gold and money in various firms by the trio. The CID has not registered any case after the seizure; instead, it stated that a report is awaited from the Income Tax Department.

The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has not confirmed the order for enquiry issued by the Chief Minister's office.

However, Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee said that he had written to the Chief Minister recommending an enquiry into the issue.
