Former HR consultant and media executive Indrani Mukerjea is in “deep sleep” and continues to battle for her life at the government-run Sir J J Hospital on Saturday night.

Indrani had consumed unspecified quantity of anti-depressants inside the jail in a suspected suicide attempt on Friday.

Indrani, the wife of former Star India CEO and media tycoon Peter Mukerjea, has been accused of killing her daughter Sheena Bora, besides attempting to eliminate her son Mikhail Bora.

Sheena and Mikhail were born to Indrani and her first live-in partner Siddhartha Das
“She is under what we medically call stupor and in common man’s term what is known as deep sleep. She is under our supervision… she continues to be in the Critical Care Unit and remains critical,” Dr T P Lahane, Dean of Grant Medical College and Sir J J Group of Hospitals, told reporters here.

“She is semi-conscious and under respiratory depression…she is being administered oxygen but she is not on ventilator support,” Dr Lahane said, adding that her blood-pressure and pulse-rate were normal.

He said that the report of her gastric lavage has come negative since the medicines may get absorbed. He later said that urine samples that were sent to the Hinduja Hospital is positive for consumption of anti-depressant.  “Her condition has improved since yesterday (Friday), but she is still critical,” Dr Lahane said.

Doctors and senior medical consultants said that the next 48 hours are going to be crucial for her. “Her health condition is being constantly monitored,” they said. Indrani, who was lodged in the Women’s Prison in Byculla, was admitted to Sir J J Hospital at 2 am on Friday. She had apparently stocked up medicines and consumed it on Friday morning worsening her condition.

Major probe into Indrani's suicide bid
A major probe has been launched into the suicide attempt by Indrani Mukerjea nee Bora, who is battling for life at the government-run Sir J J Hospital, DHNS reports from Mumbai.
However, several questions remain unanswered, and the development adds yet another mystery to the Sheena Bora murder case.

Indrani, the 43-year-old HR-turned-media executive, along with her husband and former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, had in 2007 founded INX Media Pvt Ltd, which ran channels like general entertainment channel 9XM and news channel NewsX, before they made an exit in 2009.  She was arrested on August 26 by the Khar police for her daughter Sheena's murder, and after a couple of stays in police custody was sent to judicial custody by the Bandra magistrate’s court.
