In a first of its kind initiative in the country, the Rajasthan government has launched a unique concept ‘Living Arts of Rajasthan’, which has turned Jaipur into an open art gallery.

Under the project, tribal and folk arts of Rajasthan have been put on display at public places across the city. Huge paintings and art forms on roadside hoardings, poles, bus shelters, bus stops and at other public places are a common sight these days in Jaipur.

The project will not only promote the rich art of Rajasthan but will be a unique platform for local artists to display their creation. Each painting that has been put on public places carries the name, photograph and contact details of the artist.

The vibrant display of paintings and illustrations is getting immense response from locals and tourists as well.

The project was launched on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and within three days over 70 display sites have been opened for showcasing the Jogi art of Rajasthan.

This art form finds its origin in Magriwada of Sirohi district and is presently practiced by a handful of families who are in desperate need of promotion and recognition.

Artists like Teju Ganesh Jogi, Soni Jogi, Sangeeta Jogi, Bablu Jogi and Raju Jogi have been invited to Jaipur to create the paintings for display at public places.

“Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s vision is to encourage and promote the rich heritage of tribal and folk art, and respective artists. It will provide tourists a real insight into Rajasthani art,” said a senior official of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation.

The initiative is managed by Jaipur Nagar Nigam with cooperation of Must Art Gallery in Delhi, he added.

A permanent exhibition site and other innovative projects have also been proposed to support such art and artists.
