The opposition in the North Corporation criticised the civic agency’s efforts under Swachh Bharat Mission. Leader of Opposition Mukesh Goel said the BJP-ruled corporation is ignoring the sanitation drive launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation has done nothing to make this drive a success,” said Goel.

“There are areas under the civic agency which are full of filth and insanitary conditions. This not only proves that the municipal corporation is not able to clean the area but also shows the inefficiency of the ruling party,” he added.

“Due to lack of public toilets, people are forced to urinate and defecate in open. It shows the civic agency has not even utilised the funds provided by the Delhi government to improve the condition of sanitation,” Goel said.

Goel also lashed out at the role of Mayor of North Delhi Ravinder Gupta. He said the Mayor always tries to be in the headlines and keeps on making announcements daily.

“But he took no step to make the Prime Minister’s mission a success. In every colony, dhalaos can be seen filled with garbage and sanitation is not given due attention.”

“I have raised the issue time and again in the House meetings, but the ruling party paid no heed to the matter.”

He added that Mayor launched a helpline saying that the complaints of the citizens would be attended immediately. “But it remained on papers only.”

Goel also said the BJP is insensitive towards sanitation workers.

“The civic agency is not even able to pay salaries to safai karamcharis. I advise that the ruling party should pay due attention to their demand so that the karamcharis can perform their responsibilities with due interest.”
