Visitors throng dog show

Dog lovers of the city had an opportunity to watch canines of various breeds during the second national open dog show held at Scouts and Guides grounds, behind the DC’s office, here on Sunday.

The show, dedicated to former president A P J Abdul Kalam, organised by Canine Club of Mysore, affiliated to Kennel Club of India, had more than 250 dogs of rare breeds paraded.

Thousands of people were part of the show which was held from 10 am to 5.30 pm. Dog lovers, especially children, were trickling in even at 4.30 pm, when the show was coming to an end with prize distribution and parading of the winning canines.

Groups
The dogs were categorised into 10 groups. The breeds that were on display were: sheep dogs — Belgian Shepherd dogs and German shepherd dogs (long and short haired); molossoid breed — Boxer bull dog, Fila Brasileiro, Great Dane, Mastiff, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard (long and short haired); pinscher and schnauzer type — Dobermann Pinscher and Miniature Pinscher; large and medium sized terriers — Parson Russell Terrier; dachshunds — Dachshunds Standard (smooth haired); Asian spitz and related breeds — Akita; scenthounds — Basset hound, Beagle; retrievers — Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever; bichons and related breeds — Maltese; small molossian type dogs — Pug; Tibetan breeds — Shih Tzu, Tibetan Spaniel; Indian breeds (sighthounds) — Mudhol Hound, Pashmi; long haired or fringed sighthounds — Saluki.

Yashodhara Hemachandra was the judge for the show.
Besides local participants, dogs from Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Noida, Salem and other parts of Tamil Nadu took part in the event.

Stalls
More than ten enclosures had been allotted for the dogs of different breeds. Besides, stalls selling special aloe vera shampoo for dogs, talcum powder to tackle ticks found on dogs, special washing gels, soaps, dog food, accessories for canines in different colours were on sale.

Earlier, the show was inaugurated by journalist K B Ganapathy. MLA Vasu, Mayor R Lingappa, CCM president B P Manjunath and others participated.

Winners
The winners are: first place - Dachshund (owner Sanjay, Mysuru); second - German Shepherd (Jafat Manuel, Mysuru); third - Rottweiler (Dhurien, Somwarpet); fourth - German Shepherd (Vinod Kumar, Mysuru); fifth - Boset Manuel (Ramanarayan, Bengaluru); sixth - Golden Retriever (Vinith, Mysuru); seventh place - (Sandeep, Mysuru); eighth - Beagle (Somanath, North India), the organisers of the show said.
